Happy Deepavali!
Time is coming to celebrate the Light!
Deepavali (also: Depawali, Dipavali, Dewali, Diwali, Divali, Dipotsavi, Dipapratipad ) marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year according to the Lunar Calendar. It literally translation means ‘Row of Lights’ (from Sanskrit: dipa = lamp / awali = row, line). It celebrates the victory of Goodness over Evil and Light over Darkness – it ushers in the new year. Especially for this event people are cleaning their houses and wear new clothes. Diwali is a 5 day festival, lets celebrate it together with IWAKL members!
This year the celebration for IWAKL is initiated and hosted by the Embassy of Nepal.
We have a unique chance to see how Deepavali is celebrated in Nepal without leaving KL!
Nepal is located in South Asia and shares territorial borders with India and China. Previously ruled as a kingdom, today it is a Federal Democratic Republic. Nepal is known for its exquisite natural beauty, with the iconic Himalayas running across the northern and western part of the country. Eight of the fourteen highest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest, reside within the country’s borders. Although Nepal is a relatively small country in comparison with its neighbors, it has an astonishingly diverse landscape, from the rugged Himalayas in the north to the humid Terai plains in the south. The capital and largest city is Kathmandu.
